Sotto Voce Vocal Collective - Science and Spirit
Summary: The Sotto Voce Vocal Collective is currently raising funds for our Fall 2018 program, "Science and Spirit," featuring 3 world premier, 2 new commissions, and live performances by visiting New Renaissance Artist Elizabeth A. Baker. We appreciate any and all support that will help us to produce this unique concert!
About us: Sotto Voce Vocal Collective is a performing vocal ensemble based in Buffalo, NY that aims to promote awareness of both the capabilities of the human voice and the diversity of composers living today. The group performs works primarily by under-represented living composers, with at least 50% of each program featuring works by womxn, and at least 25% featuring works by POC. Programs are structured in unique formats – such as interactive opera or poetic mono-drama — so as to better engage audiences in the exploration of adventurous sound worlds.
About the project: On November 17th at 5pm, Sotto Voce will present the program "Science and Spirit" at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Buffalo. The program will feature two newly commissioned works: "Ave Virgo Virginum" by Buffalo-based composer Igor Coehlo A.S. Marques and "@quantumloop_#love" by New Rennaissance Artist Elizabeth A. Baker. Baker will be joining us from Florida for the event and will also perform several solo works for piano and electronics alongside the ensemble. These works and the 7 other contemporary pieces on the show will feature melodies, rhythms, and textures inspired by electronic music - making for an experience at once strange and yet familiar - and will be accompanied by physical choreography and projections that help elucidate the composers’ intentions.
Where your money goes: Your donation will help us cover the commissioning fees for our two featured composers, travel expenses including airfare and lodging for our special guest Elizabeth A. Baker, and stipends for the ensemble members. Thank you for helping us to continue making vocal magic in Buffalo and beyond!
